I guess, as a Christian, I’m supposed to be upset that Starbucks (in whom I own stock and which I patronize regularly) brought out this year’s Christmas cups and didn’t put anything on them that would indicate that they were, in fact, Christmas cups. But then, I’m a Catholic, and while I consider myself a Christian, there are those who don’t. Maybe that’s why I’m wondering what this current kerfluffle is all about. Either that, or maybe I’m just one of those people who considers what’s in my coffee cup far more important than what’s on it.
Can you imagine the uproar if they came out with a rainbow-colored cup? Yeesh…

I haven’t understood this either, John. Seems a bit ridiculous to me, but I guess we should be thankful that some people have it so good that the color of their coffee cup constitutes a major crisis.

I’m Baptist and by most standards conservative. But really it’s a CUP! I also don’t get the hoopla. I must say, it is a nice shade of red.

I’m sitting at Starbucks now, and you’re right, it is a nice cup, and the green logo goes well with it and makes the whole thing Christmas-y. Red and green are the colors of the season, what’s the problem? And no one’s complaining they don’t have a cup for Hanukkah…

I think the underlying issue is that Christianity is becoming more minimalized in our country in favor of greater diversity that defers to other beliefs and morality systems. Starbucks would have been better served not to have made any cup change.
I rarely go to Starbucks, but if they started making rainbow cups with an agenda in mind or cups honoring some Muslim holiday I would be somewhat miffed about it.
Let’s face it though–Starbucks is pretty overpriced. My wife says the coffee I make at home is better and she goes to Starbucks far more often than I do.

I never heard of the group that they quoted in the article, so I think they’re looking for press. At home, we get the house brand coffee from Kroger. Starbucks for us is a destination, a place to go when we need to get out of the house.

Really, you try to please everyone, you please no one. Next year I bet they just stay with the white cups and people will fuss. I’m more concerned with the contents than with the cup it comes in.
