Monday’s Music Moves Me: Commercial Jingles!

So, here’s the prompt, as of Friday afternoon:

Theme for Monday’s Music Moves Me this Monday is “One old commercial” or two if you like! If you’d like to post more get rid of those tunes that sticks in your head that you can’t get rid of.

Now, you know I can do this all day, right? I spent much of my misspent youth watching TV and listening to the radio, absorbing everything I saw and heard as though the TV and radio waves were running through my head and imbedding themselves in my brain. (And they probably were.) I’ll limit myself to five, as I usually do.

Ajax Cleanser If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know Dad taught my aunts and mother to sing this one. Yesterday was Mom And Dad’s 62nd anniversary, and I wish they were here so I could celebrate it with them.

Rice Krispies Snap, Crackle, and Pop jam on the Rice Krispies song. The part where the three of them are singing their verses all together is simply magnificent.

Alka-Seltzer The full tune, “No Matter What Shape,” by the T-Bones, is here.

Chevrolet Featuring the beautiful Ms. Dinah Shore. From 1956, like me.

Carling’s Black Label Beer commercials have some of the catchiest jingles, and this might be the catchiest. Carling is a Canadian brand that isn’t distributed much in the US any more.

And that’s Monday’s Music Moves Me for October 17, 2016.

Monday’s Music Moves Me is sponsored by X-Mas Dolly, Callie, Stacy, Cathy, and Naila Moon, so be sure and visit them, where you can also find the Linky for the other participants.

  1. Okay, I think I remember Ajax & maybe snap, crackle, pop and even the alka belger too… but then again maybe not. bwahahaha As far as Dinah Shore oh yes, I definitely remember her because is high-school there was a parity to that song. See the USSR in your armor car. Mr Kruschev is asking you to call. Bring your tommy guns we’ll have lotsa fun Germany’s the greatest land of all…. NOT!!!! BWAHAHAHA FUNNY HOw I can remember stupid stuff like that and I can’t remember some of my own family’s birthday’s…. aughhhhhhhhhhh gREAT PICS my friend! Have a great day!

    1. Great parody!

Mary and I are both afflicted with the ability to remember stuff from fifty years ago but not something from five minutes ago. I guess there’s so much stuff floating around in our brains that sometimes it swamps things we want to remember short term. I’m getting better about writing things down (actually typing them into Evernote) so I don’t forget.

  2. I was a big fan of “No Matter What Shape” when it came out and bought the T-Bones version on 45 RPM record. There were a few versions of the song when it came out and they all sounded similar, but the T-Bones were the real group.

    1. The T-Bones were “The wrecking Crew,” LA super session musicians, including Tommy Tedesco, Carol Kaye, and for a while (though not on this cut) Glen Campbell. They evidently had quite a few songs, but this was their biggest.

      1. Considering that that was all hand drawn illustration back then, I’m sure that commercial cost a few snaps. I don’t know about your dad’s opinion, it might meet the definition of fugue.
