Last Wednesday, my Battle of the Bands was based on the song “Town Without Pity,” a hit for Gene Pitney in 1961. The contenders were Scottish chanteuse Eddi Reader and Sha Na Na featuring Johnny Cantardo. The votes are all in and counted and here are the results.
Sha Na Na featuring Johnny Cantardo: 4
Congratulations to Eddi Reader, and a pat on the back to Johnny and the rest of Sha Na Na. Uncle Jack voted for them even though he thought the four greasers walking around with the top hats was a little weird.
Next week, we go back into the world of jazz for the Battle. Be with us then!
Wow, this was a tough one.

It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be.

I consider any BOTB great because you never know how it will go. I did like Sha Na Na but had to go with the other who won this round

Cathy Kennedy (http://curiousasacathy.com) did a feature on Eddi Reader today. She’s quite good.

My first instinct was to vote for Eddi, but then I went back and changed the vote to Sha Na Na because I was so torn between two versions that were good. At least I was among those who helped keep some balance to your results. It was a tough choice.

On behalf of my better half, for whom the Gene Pitney version IS THE SONG, I have to ignore these results.

Your choice. I like the original the best myself.
