Bet you were wondering how I’d come up with something that starts with U and ends with V, didn’t you?

From their website:
UNLV is a big institution, with almost 25,000 undergraduates, 4,300 graduate students, and over 1,000 faculty members (I can’t say whether that includes administrators or not). They offer over 350 degrees and are the second-most diverse university in the nation, according to US News & World Report.

Their athletic teams are called the Rebels, and they compete in the Mountain West Conference of the NCAA. They compete in men’s baseball, football, basketball, golf, soccer, swimming and diving, and tennis, and women’s basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, swim & dive, track & field, volleyball, and tennis. They have done quite well in all their sports.
By all means, visit their website. I can’t do it justice.
Nicely done. The Runnin’ Rebels of UNLV. Wasn’t it Jerry Tarkanian who coached them and always stuck a white hand towel in his mouth, presumably to keep himself silent so he didn’t get a Technical foul? Regardless, that was masterful handling of the U-V dilemma.

From what I’ve read of him (again, I don’t follow college basketball), he was a real troublemaker, so it wouldn’t surprise me.

UNLV had a pretty good basketball team, years back

Well done. I’ve driven by UNLV many times when I’ve been in Vegas. It does look like a big campus.

I believe UNLV won or had a good run in the NCAA tournament sometime when was in high school leading the other boys on my varsity basketball team to call our team the “Rebs.” It didn’t make much sense for a catholic school in suburban Connecticut, especially when we already had the nickname Blue Knights, but kids will do such things.

That was when I first heard of the school, when their basketball team was doing well. I think they do pretty well in baseball and women’s softball as well.

Watch Las Vegas for sports. They’re adding an NHL team for the 2017-2018 season, and the Raiders are leaving Oakland for Vegas in 2020.

I don’t think it’ll be too long before they have a major league baseball team as well. They do pretty well as a AAA team for San Diego (last time I looked).

Very inventive:) I actually like to hear how a university began and where they are now.

Often, even though they’re essentially parts of the state university system, they distinguish themselves.

I was betting on ultraviolet (UV) myself. 🙂 Love your creativity with this year’s challenge!

I thought about that, then I knew what I was going to do for an upcoming letter and decided against it.

I knew it wouldn’t be easy… but as Super Chicken used to say, “you knew the job was dangerous when you took it.”
