This edition of The Week That Was is brought to you by Jif peanut butter. Choosy mothers choose Jif!
I understand that food allergies have gotten so bad that kids are no longer allowed to bring peanut butter sandwiches or anything with peanut butter in it to school. I would have starved to death, because I brought peanut butter sandwiches all the time. Guess we’d never see scenes like this one, either…
Leon, the little boy at the end who offers Barney his sandwich, is played by Clint Howard, baby brother of Ronny Howard. But you knew that.
A little followup from yesterday: my uncle Jack said “Hey, what about E. coli? That starts with ‘eco.'” Had I thought of it, I would have included it. Well, this morning I got up to learn that they think romaine lettuce is the culprit in the latest outbreak of E. coli. Coincidence? I think not!
It was the first week of Just Jot It January as well as the first week of 2018, so let’s get right into it.
First, if you haven’t voted in my latest Battle of the Bands, I’ll announce the winner tomorrow. Voting has been very light, and I can’t tell if it’s because it was a holiday week or if people were sick of the song. I promise, that’s the last time I’ll do a battle with it.
We did New Year’s songs on M4 last week. Tomorrow is a feebie, so prepare for a survey post.
Kay Starr was the featured artist this past week. I have one or two more pre-rock & roll artists from the Baby Boom years I’d like to do before getting into the rockers.
This week’s one-liner was from Robert “Bob” Orben, who spent his life coming up with amusing one-liners.
In a sort of “year in review” post, I shared a list of my top twelve posts from 2017. As you might imagine, many of them came from the A to Z Challenge. But not as many as last year.
I did one-hit wonders from 1979. You’ll be happy to know I’m done with beating the one-hit wonder dead horse. Now I have to figure out what I’ll do this week.
The prompt was “eco,” as I mentioned above, and since I didn’t want to write about ecology or economics, I found some words that contained the letters instead.
And this was the first week of Just Jot It January, as mentioned above…
- Monday’s prompt was “drama.”
- Tuesday’s was “boisterous.”
- Thursday’s was “passionate.”
- Friday’s was “memories,” which I blew off and did a joke about memory instead.
Wednesday’s and Saturday’s were, of course, tied in with the regular features on those days.
No major surprises in store this week. If there are any, they’ll be a surprise to me, too.
Thanks to Judy, Janet, Joey, Uncle Jack Connelly, J-Dub, Kip, GhostMMNC, Capt Jill, Eugenia, Birgit, Deby, Ritu, Dan, Liza, Susanne, JoAnna, Mike, Buzz Cut, SoundEagle, Dan Julian, Jet Girl, Encore Voyage, Madam Dreamweaver, Arlee, Biker Chick, Frank, XmasDolly, Pat, Stacy, Mary B, Stephen, David Webb, Cathy, Linda, Annie, Hilary, and everyone who gave me a “like.” I’ve kind of fallen behind on returning comments or visiting, but I’ll get there, promise.
That’s it for this edition of The Week That Was. See you in the funny papers!
