Face front… Lift your head… You’re on the winning team… ‘NUFF SAID! #1LinerWeds

If you growl, if you groan, and your star is nearly zero, do not howl, do not moan, you can be a superhero, marching right along to the fighting song of the Merry Marvel Marching Society!

I woke up this morning (I’m writing this yesterday) with this song in my head…

… and that line stuck with me. So, it’s today’s one-liner. All the lyrics are on this page, about halfway down, in case you’d like to sing along.

One-Liner Wednesday is brought to you each week by Linda Hill and this station. Now, let’s all do the Teaberry Shuffle!

    1. When Marvel Comics was starting in the ’60’s, they had a fan club which evolved into The Merry Marvel Marching Society. If you joined, you’d get a certificate, an ID card, and a 45 rpm record with this song on it. They had (and for all I know still have) a TV show called “The Marvel Superheroes” that ran weeknights and had a rotating cast of Captain America, Spiderman, The Hulk, Thor, and Sub-Mariner (one night of the week for each), and at the end of the show this played over the credits, which is where I first heard it. Memories of childhood…

    1. It was made by Clark’s in Pittsburgh, apparently for a long time before it became a cultural phenomenon (so to speak) in the ’60’s. They had another flavor, Cinnamint, they were promoting at the same time. I checked OkldTimeCandy.com and they said that Clark has discontinued the flavor, so it’s doubtful we’ll ever be able to get it again. I liked it myself…
