Two For Tuesday: Mindi Abair

St. Petersburg, Florida-born saxophonist Mindi Abair has enjoyed remarkable success, including two Grammy nominations, ten #1 singles, two #1 jazz albums and four more albums in the Top 5. She was the featured saxophonist during the 2011 and 2012 seasons of American Idol and has collaborated with a number of artists, including the band Aerosmith and fellow smooth jazz performers Dave Koz, Peter White, and Rick Braun in an annual series of holiday concerts. And that’s just for starters. You can see more details on her career on her Wikipedia page and her website.

From her second album, 2003’s It Just Happens That Way, “Lucy’s.”

Her most recent album with her band, The Boneshakers, is a holiday album released this year, All I Got For Christmas Is The Blues. Here’s the title track.

  1. Ironically, listening to my Mindi Abair Pandora station this morning when I saw your post.
Love this Jazz artists, I think I have all but her most recent two albums.

    1. Have you heard “Summer Horns,” with her, Dave Koz, Gerald Albright, and Richard Elliot? Great album, whether or not you like saxophone. I’ve already featured Gerald, now to get the other two…

      1. I have not heard that album, but you can bet I will be looking for it now.
And I love Saxaphone. Candy Dulfer is one of my favourite saxophonists.
I believe you’ve featured her here before as well.

        1. Yes, I’ve talked about Candy. She and her father Hans (also a fantastic sax player) have done a couple of albums together that are worth looking for.
