Song Lyric Sunday: “Laughing”

Jim’s assignment for this week, “laugh,” came with a number of suggestions, and unfortunately all of the songs I could think of were on his list. Wanting to be unique, this left me with two choices, one of which was the novelty record “They’re Coming To Take Me Away, Ha-Haaaa!” and the other was The Guess Who hit from 1969, “Laughing.” Not wanting to inadvertently offend someone, I opted for the latter, happy that as of 10:53 AM Eastern Time no one had chosen it. This was their first hit from 1969’s Canned Wheat album, topping the Canadian chart and peaking at #10 on the Hot 100.

The lyrics are in the video. That’s Song Lyric Sunday for January 13, 2019.

        1. I think of all the guys who played The Joker in the movies and TV, his came closest to capturing the utter psychopathy of the character. I didn’t like the movie as much as the Tim Burton “Batman” movies, but Ledger’s portrayal was superb.

          1. Agree on all counts. And for campy less psychotic we have Cesar Romero. TV was mild in comparison of course as times change. I sure did enjoy watching the TV shows.

            1. Cesar Romero was a classic. He refused to shave off his mustache (after all, it was his trademark as a Latin lover) for the part, so they would paint over it. If you look on one of the closeups, you can see it.

  1. I wasnt sure if I knew this song. It started with a sound of familiarity, but then it took a turn and now I don’t know that I had ever heard it before. Great song choice!
