I liked my last Battle of the Bands, where I chose several different songs with the name “Do It Again” and asked which one you liked best, so much that I decided to do it again. So, today’s battle is between songs that share the name “Pillow Talk.”

Sylvia Robinson wrote this in 1972 and offered it to Al Green, who turned it down because of his religious values, so she decided to record it herself in 1973, and it reached #3 on the Hot 100 and #1 on the Soul chart that year.

Zayn Malik is a British singer, formerly a member of One Direction. He recorded his “Pillow Talk” in 2016 and it became a #1 hit fo him in the US and UK and a Top 10 hit in most of the rest of the world.

Wild Child

Wild Child is an indie pop band from Austin, Texas. Their “Pillow Talk” was the title track from their 2011 album.

So, those are the contestants. You know the drill:

  1. Listen to all three songs.
  2. Decide which you like the best.
  3. Vote for your favorite by leaving me a comment with your choice. If you feel like telling us why, feel free.
  4. Then, visit the other participants and vote in their Battles:

I’ll tally the votes and announce the winner next Saturday, June 22, so be sure and get your vote in by then. Remember, you don’t need to participate in Battle of the Bands to vote.

The lines are now open. Good luck to Sylvia, Zayn, and Wild Child!

  1. John,

I’m giving my vote to Slyvia. Zahn got on my nerves a bit and while I liked the female vocals of Wild Child, I really didn’t care for the male singer. As you know I’m sitting out this summer for BoTB but I’ll be hosting the 4M dance party each week still. Have a bandtastic day!

  2. Sylvia sounded like there was a little more than pillow talk taking place. I didn’t care much for Zayn, but I really liked Wild Child. Give my vote to them.

  3. JOHN ~

I’m still a little upset that The Beach Boys lost to Steely Dan in your last Battle. I’ll get over it… eventually. But it’ll probably take another bottle of Green Chile Vodka.

    ZAYNE: No. Just… NO!
There’s nuttin’ wrong with that guy(?) that a double Starbucks Soy Latte wouldn’t fix. (Oh, no. Check that! I think it was Starbucks Soy Lattes that got him into that condition to begin with.)

I did like Wild Child, but… my BOTB bote goes to SYLVIA, widout a doubt. Gotta admit, the sex appeal of it finally wore me down. [;^D

  4. I’ve been listening to Harry Styles and Zayn lately…are they just getting more air time or was my head under a rock?

Give my vote to Zayn! I do love his voice.

  5. I vote for Sylvia. I couldn’t understand Zany and Wild Child just didn’t get it for me either. Maybe it’s because I know the Sylvia song or maybe it’s because I thought they would all be singing the same song.

  6. Sylvia is good and I enjoyed listening to her style. Zany is just ok for me because he sounds like so many others. I vote for the folksy Wild Child that could play at any gig. Nice and soft, melodic style so they get my vote. To be honest, when I read your headline, “Pillow Talk” I thought you were using the Doris Day tune

  7. The only song I’ve heard before is the first one and that was a long long time ago. The third song is kind of sweet and catchy. The middle is so so for me.

My vote goes to the retro sound of Sylvia. Nice hearing this tune again.
