The song I chose for today’s prompt, “Cards/Dice/Gamble/Lose/Win,” is Sade’s “Your Love Is King.” While the lyrics really have nothing to do with the prompt, the official video for it features a few scenes in which the beautiful Ms. Adu (the Sade in Sade) is playing with a deck of cards, even showing a touch of legerdemain. It was written by Sade and guitarist/saxophonist Stuart Matthewman and was on their debut album, 1985’s Diamond Life.
This came from her YouTube channel, and the lyrics were included…
Your love is king, never need to part
Your kisses ring, round and round and round my head
Touching the very part of me, it’s making my soul sing
Tearing the very heart of me, I’m crying out for more
Your love is king, crown you in my heart
Your love is king, you’re the ruler of my heart
Your kisses ring, round and round and round my head
Touching the very part of me, it’s making my soul sing
I’m crying out for more, your love is king
I’m coming on, I’m coming
You’re making me dance, inside
Your love is king, crown you in my heart
Your love is king, never need to part
Your kisses ring, round and round and round my head
Touching the very part of me, it’s making my soul sing
Tearing the very heart of me, I’m crying out for more
Touching the very part of me, it’s making my soul sing
I’m crying out for more, your love is king
This is no blind faith, this is no sad and sorry dream
This is no blind faith, your love, your love is real
Gotta crown me with your heart
(Your love is king)
Never, never need to part
(Your love is king)
Touch me
(Your love is king)
Never letting go
(Your love is king)
(Your love is king)
Never letting go of your love
(Your love is king)
Never gonna give it up
(Your love is king)
I’m coming
(Your love is king)
Making me dance
And that’s Song Lyric Sunday for June 23, 2019.

She’s dynamite. I fell in love with her the first time I heard “Smooth Operator.”

Absolutely love her. We saw her in concert once right after her “Soldier of Love” album came out. We were disappointed that she started her show so late that we had to leave before the encore or run the risk of missing the last BART train home. π¦ She puts on a great show and that voice…the sax…!!

I’ve heard she has a tendency to start late, and she was going through something during that tour (the place I read it didn’t say what it was). Her voice is fantastic and she is a very beautiful woman, and the rest of the band complements her perfectly.

I remember seeing the video almost 30 years ago, and said “I have to use it” when I saw the prompt. Fortunately, the original video was on YouTube.
