The Two-Minute Warning Week That Was

This edition of The Week That Was is brought to you by Chills & Thrills, the first soft drink you eat with a spoon!

I never saw this or any of the ads for it. If you have, how was it?

Woke up this morning and realized that we’re almost finished with the first half of 2019. Where’d it go? Here’s the sumary for the week.

In honor of Father’s Day, I posted a song that Chet Atkins wrote to honor his father, “I Still Can’t Say Goodbye.” Tommy Emmanuel has been doing it in his concerts since Chet died, at Chet’s request, and his was the version I posted.

For freebie day, I went back and followed up with the musical acts I’ve introduced here, and added several new ones.

I featured Carl Carlton, Andy Williams and Tracy Lawrence for Round 18.

Paul Jackson, Jr. was the featured artist. I had featured him many years ago and decided against rerunning that.

Found a funny tweet on Twitter that captured the essence of what posting tweets on Twitter is all about. I’ve said it before, were it not for Twitter we’d have a lot of people sitting in the back of buses muttering to themselves.

Speaking of muttering to oneself, I talked a little bit about why my mother thought I was nuts, both with the talking to myself and later sleepwalking for a short time.

We visited KNUZ in Houston, Texas to find out what they were playing on June 21, 1957. I think the music was familiar enough to everyone that y’all enjoyed it.

Seems funny to talk about autumn (or fall, if you prefer) on the second day of summer, but Linda’s prompt was “leaves,” which put the song “Autumn Leaves” in my mind, and I just took it from there, because after all, it was Stream of Consciousness Saturday.

In my most recent Battle of the Bands, comparing songs named “Pillow Talk,” Sylvia’s song from the mid-’70’s emerged as the decisive winner.

Tomorrow, I’ll be sharing a brand new summer playlist with all new songs, because that’s what we’re supposed to do for M4. I’ll be working on the rest of the features today, so this week will be a surprise to everyone, most of all me.

Thanks to:

And that’s it for this edition of The Week That Was. See you in the funny papers!

  1. A busy week that was for sure….had a root canal done. Dreams galore and kept dreaming of my friend who said we must be “linked” because he is not doing well. I still have to speak to him about what’s going on. Have been very tired and, just now, in fact, fell asleep trying to write this. Seeing the dr.

  2. My gosh, I haven’t heard that song in ages (I still can’t say goodbye). Youtube is blocked for us (thanks to teen Barbarians procrastination habits), so I will have to hunt it down on Spotify.
