BATTLE OF THE BANDS (and Monday’s Music Moves Me): “Evil Woman”

Another freebie day here for Monday’s Music Moves Me, and I realized I have a Battle of the Bands due, especially since I didn’t do one two weeks ago. So I decided “why not?” and declared that I would combine the two!

What this means is (a) I won’t be doing as many songs as I usually do, for the M4 people, and (b) I’ll be doing a few more songs than we normally do for BotB. To both groups, I beg your indulgence…

The last couple of BotB’s I’ve done have featured battles between different songs with the same name, which I think has worked well. I found this page that’s an index of songs that fit this description. There are five (count ’em!) different songs named “Evil Woman.” I’ve gathered the five into a playlist, which follows immediately.

Our five contestants are:

  1. Electric Light Orchestra
  2. Spooky Tooth
  3. Crow
  4. Doobie Brothers
  5. Black Sabbath

Your job, should you choose to accept it, is:

  1. Listen to the playlist.
  2. Decide which song you like the best.
  3. Vote for your favorite by leaving me a comment with your choice. If you feel like telling us why, feel free.
  4. Then, visit the other participants and vote in their Battles:

I’ll tally the votes on Monday, July 22, and announce the winner in a post that day, so be sure and have your vote to me by then.

The lines are now open. Good luck to all our contestants!

Monday’s Music Moves Me is sponsored by X-Mas Dolly, Callie, Cathy, Alana, Michelle and Stacy, so be sure and visit them, where you can also find the Linky for the other participants.

  1. JOHN ~
I apologize, but I just started a new job that is on the verge of killing me (if I don’t wise-up and quit before that happens). I really, truly, honestly do not have time to listen to 5 songs. And although I’m inclined to suspect I would lean toward ELO, I don’t want to corrupt the true, authentic outcome of your Battle by voting without seriously considering all of the contenders, so I’m afraid I need to bow out this time.

It’s already nearly 9:30 PM here, and I need to shower and get to bed soon. Sorry, Brother. I’ll do better next time. (I’ll probably be unemployed by then, too, and have a lot more time.)

    1. I understand perfectly, Steverino. I might throw you in as a “leaning ELO,” maybe even treat it like a provisional ballot, where we only count it if there’s a tie. I hate it when work gets in the way of blogging…

      1. Well, JOHN, color me “Back”.

I managed to listen to all 5 Evil Women and, yep, put me down for ELO. There are valid reasons that was the one “Evil Woman” to reach Top 10 in the Billboard charts.

I appreciate ELO more today than I did back when they were really popular hit-makers.

  2. This just goes to show that women are evil in different ways 😉 I’m voting for Crow, with ELO coming in as a hard and fast second.

    Very interesting and intriguing battle!

  3. ELO all the way for me because I love the band and I love this song and consider it excellent from the unique way it is delivered. My second would be Croe because I love the horns and the beat. Black Sabbath would be 3rd for me while the Doobie Brothers was just meh. Funny, the worst for me is Spooky Tooth because I didn’t like his falsetto…sounds like he kept getting kicked in the nuts

  4. That’s a lot of “evil women”! I hadn’t heard these in years (and maybe never). The most refreshing to hear again for me was the song by Crow. That’s where my vote goes (though I do like the ELO song a lot).

  5. Spooky Tooth gets my vote. These guys are playing with passion and heart, not just going through the motions. I admit that I went into the listening with a bias towards ELO because I’d heard it before, but up against Spooky Tooth, no competition. Good challenge, John. I like the way you set it up as a playlist.

  6. John,

I’m not sure if I knew there were different ‘Evil Woman’ songs before now but WOW, you found 5 titles! I’m gonna have to give my vote to the song that I know the best by Electric Light Orchestra! Great battle and thanks for sharing it with the 4M gang on the dance floor. Have a boogietastic week, my friend!
