Here we go again with another example of two different songs with the same title. For this battle, I avoided any band with a name I recognized and selected two bands that played in similar genres. Hopefully we’ll have a real contest, unlike the last couple of times… The song is called “Let’s Go,” and here are your choices:

Rancid is a punk-rock band from Berkeley, California. This is the title track from their 1994 album.

Vardis is a hard rock/boogie rock/heavy metal band from Wakefield, West Yorkshire. This is a single that came along with their EP 100 MPH.

I think you know what to do by now:

  1. Listen to the two songs.
  2. Decide which song you like the best.
  3. Vote for your favorite by leaving me a comment with your choice. If you feel like telling us why, feel free.
  4. Then, visit the other participants and vote in their Battles:

I’ll announce the winner next Sunday, September 8, so be sure and get your vote to me by then.

The lines are now open. Good luck to Rancid and Vardis!

  1. I liked Vardis more than Rancid, based on the name, right out of the chute.

But this is the Battle of the Bands! And we need to just songs!

Turns out, I was right the first time. A vote for Vardis!

  2. Rancid works for this type of music:). I was going to vote for them because it was short and not as rancid as I thought it would be but Vardis gets my vote because the guitar caught my…ear and I thought that was pretty good.

  3. John,

I’m not a fan of punk rock but I gave them a fair listen before switching to contender #2 which easily gets my vote. Put me down for Vardis please. Interesting battle. I’ll be back playing along mid-month. Now to boogie with you on the dance floor!

  4. Yeah, what Lee said.

Rancid pretty much sounded like that. They were like The Ramones only without a sense of humor, and taking themselves quite seriously.

I probably would have liked ‘Let’s Go’ by Vardis when I was 17 or 18 years old. But that style of music has not aged well according to my (now) 60-years-old ears. But I still preferred Vardis to rancid Rancid.

  5. Thankfully these were pretty short–longer than I cared for, but relatively short. I guess my ears and musical taste are getting old, but I probably wouldn’t have listened to either of these groups in my younger days either.

Of the two, I thought Vardis showed more musical versatility and creativity. I’ve gotta go with them so let’s go with Vardis and Rancid can just go away.
