It was originally done by Them with Van Morrison, but there was a line that radio stations (specifically WLS) objected to, so many of them didn’t play it. The Shadows of Knight did a version without that line, so WLS started playing it instead, and it became a hit not only in Chicago but nationwide.

It’s the one I’m most familiar with. I didn’t even know Van Morrison had done it (with Them) until a few years later.

All the local bands had their own version of “Gloria”. Good song though I don’t care for it as much as I did back in the day.
