Share Your World For December 16, 2019

Time once again for Melanie’s Share Your World! Follow the link to see the rules and the questions. Here we go…

Do you enjoy receiving Christmas cards through snail mail? I don’t mind it; we don’t send cards out ourselves, though.

Do you like the taste and/or smell of peppermint? Yes. Quite a bit, in fact.

What is your least favorite holiday side dish? Green bean casserole. Not that we ever would have occasion to have it.

What is the coolest (best) gift you ever gave someone? You know, I really couldn’t say.

What is a Christmas song that makes you cringe? I have three: "Wonderful Christmastime" by Paul McCartney, "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" by John Lennon, and "Do They Know It’s Christmas" by a bunch of musicians calling themselves Band Aid.

As for Christmas music I like, here are a few off the top of my head…

  • Johnny Mathis, "Walkin’ In A Winter Wonderland"
  • Pentatonix, "Mary Did You Know"
  • The Barking Dogs, "Jingle Bells"
  • The Royal Guardsmen, "Snoopy’s Christmas"
  • Burl Ives, "Holly Jolly Christmas"

See you in the funny papers!

  1. That is too funny Mr. John, that John Lennon song. Every time that song comes on the radio me and my husband keep a count to see who wins. We always think of, “the sad animal commercials.” Merry Christmas ❤

    1. You know, speaking of the “sad animal” commercials, how much of that $19 a month actually goes to helping the poor creatures and how much of it goes to the companies that make the commercials?

    1. I don’t think anyone actually likes it. Except, maybe, French’s (they make the onions), Campbell’s (cream of mushroom soup) and Del Monte (they do the green beans). Glad you liked the songs; I just picked the five that came to mind right away.

  2. I love getting Christmas kidding since I make my own and I noticed how little I made this past year! I like peppermint for my breath but I was never into candy canes or mint flavoured stuff except after Eight dinner mints. As for a side Brussel sprouts please..blechhh. I also don’t care for yam. There are 2 gifts I gave that I loved giving….one was to my brother, it was my only gift to him since I only had $40 for a budget which was big for me and it was a chess set, handcarved, in the image of Tirolean gnomes/elves and he still has it. The other was a special photo album I created for my mom in 1988, the first year my dad was gone. It was her life with my dad and I chose the photos and created poems etc.. to go with heir love story. My dad was the mighty tree, steadfast and strong and my mom is the wind, free and strong where both need each other to live onwards together. I like the songs you chose. To put a smile on my face especially the doggies. As for songs I cringe, Santa Baby sung by everyone except Eartha Kitt. Chestnuts on an Open Fire and any new song which sounds like any song during the year but they just add Christmas into it” .

    1. I agree on “Santa Baby.” No one did it better than Eartha Kitt, and most of the people who try have no business doing so.

I think I was 15 when I first heard the dogs bark out “Jingle Bells,” and I remember laughing myself sick. We had an album with cats meowing Christmas songs. Their version of “O Holy Night” is a riot…

  3. Not a fan of green bean casserole either. Love peppermint but not spearmint. I’m okay with Wonderful Christmas time but I can do without Happy Xmas.
