Song of the Day: Tony Joe White, “Polk Salad Annie”

Tony Joe White himself is a one-hit wonder, this having been his only Top 40 hit, taking it to #8 on the Hot 100 in 1969. He’s better known as a songwriter, having written "Rainy Night In Georgia," which Brook Benton took to #4 on the Hot 100 and #1 on the R&B chart in 1970, and "Steamy Windows" for Tina Turner in 1989, among others.

    1. Always liked that one. He was a great songwriter. He also wrote “A Rainy Night In Georgia,” apparently while he was living here in Marietta and working for Georgia Power. Very talented guy.
