Tommy James & The Shondells were a band from Niles, Michigan that had a great deal of success in the mid- to late-’60’s, putting fourteen singles in the Top 40, two of which were #1 songs and five more of which were Top 10’s. "Crimson and Clover" was the second #1 ("Hanky Panky," their only Gold record, was the other), reaching that level in February 1969. It was the #10 song for that year. It’s been covered a bunch of times, including by Joan Jett, Prince, and Dolly Parton(!).

One of my favorite songs growing up…my sister had this on a single…very few that she had that I really liked.

Another great band that had a lot of success in the Chicago area. Their next big hit was “Crystal Blue Persuasions,” which is my favorite by them.
