King Harvest was started by four American expatriates who had attended Cornell University and lived in Paris. Sherman Kelly, who wrote "Dancing In The Moonlight," was briefly a member but left before they recorded the song. The band disbanded and reformed in the US, signing with Perception Records after the label agreed to release the song. It reached #13 in the US and #5 in Canada in late 1972, and reached #36 in the US and #71 in Canada on the 1973 year-end charts.
