Everyone say hello to Michelle from Michelle’s Musings and Merriment, our guest conductor for the merry month of January! Her first task for us this week is "New Beginnings." These would be songs about starting over again. I have ten I’d like to suggest, because after all, ten is a playlist…
Rather than my usual exhaustive job of explaining my choices, here’s the list of songs, and let’s see what you come up with…
- ABBA, "Take A Chance On Me"
- Patti Labelle, "New Attitude"
- Johnny Nash, "I Can See Clearly Now"
- The Beatles, "Here Comes The Sun"
- Barry Manilow, "Ready To Take A Chance Again"
- Talking Heads, "Take Me To The River"
- Johnny Cash, "A Boy Named Sue"
- Chicago, "Goodbye"
- Chicago, "Beginnings"
- Lou Christie, "Beyond The Blue Horizon"
And that’s Monday’s Music Moves Me for January 6, 2020.
Monday’s Music Moves Me is sponsored by X-Mas Dolly, Callie, Cathy, Alana, and Stacy, so be sure and visit them, where you can also find the Linky for the other participants.
You have a few songs I never, ever would have thought of for this theme, especially A Boy Named Sue. And Lou Christie singing Beyond the Blue Horizon? Well done. Well done.

“A Boy Named Sue” was kind of a wild card, but there is the sense of starting over in that (the father-son relationship). “Beyond The Blue Horizon” is a real oldie: Jeanette McDonald did the original back in the ’20’s or ’30’s. Beautiful song: a lot of the commenters on YouTube say they wanted played at their funeral…

You sure know how to shake up a crowd! Great tunes here my friend! I must say that Johnny Cash tune was a surprise. I haven’t heard that tune in so long. It always makes me laugh! Great list my friend. Have a-rockin’ week!

With the Johnny Cah tune, I realized that the narrator’s perspective on his father changed a lot, from wanting to kill him to understanding why he had named him “Sue.”

John,
I always enjoy your playlists. There’s no need to get elaborate with the song descriptions unless that’s something you simply like doing. Just have fun sharing the mewsic that moves you with each theme. Here’s to new beginnings for you in 2020. May every day hold unique and special blessings, my friend!

Yeah to ABBA! This is a great list with some songs I would not have thought of at all..not surprising given my limited knowledge. I love learning more things like this.

YouTube’s suggestions were pretty good. Sometimes you won’t think of something and see something suggested and say “oh, yeah…”
