Song of the Day: Elmore James, “Dust My Broom”

Seems like everyone who learns to play slide guitar starts out with something by Elmore James, and this song more than any of the others. Frank Zappa once said that "Elmore James only knew one lick, but you had the feeling he meant it."

      1. It was amazing … and a total accident. The restaurant where I had planned to eat was closed on Mondays (a fact of which I was ignorant), so I picked a random place on Beale Street … and there he was.

  1. I read about this before I heard it. Brian Jones loved this song and based his early guitar playing around it…great song..and playing.

        1. The thing was that so sad was that the old bluesmen were being ignored in this country while they were idolized in England. You’d say Howlin’ Wolf to someone and people would ask “what’s that?” People here would idolize the British musicians who were playing music that came from here. Life is weird…

          1. I know…I have to say…the British musicians were very respectful to them because they knew the score.
It took them for people to find the real bluesmen

    1. He’s one of those guys that made it sound easy, and has a lot of fans to this day. Like Zappa said, he only had the one lick, but it was a good one.
