We did duets this past Sunday for Song Lyric Sunday, and I was thinking today that there are a bunch of duets that got forgotten, so I’m going to do them the next few days. First up is a popular Christmas song, but it’s more of a winter song, because it never mentions Christmas (though I’ve heard versions that replace the last line with "I’ll be back on Christmas Day"). It’s done by two guys that we lost within a week of each other last year, Leon Redbone (died May 30) and Dr. John (died June 6). I was in Knoxville, Tennessee in December a couple of years ago (2002, I think) and heard this for the first time. It was great enough to hear Leon do this, but when Dr. John joined in, I had my Christmas present.

Dr John is the best. I missed him a few years ago because I needed to cover a shift. Still regretting missing the moment. He is and will be a monument.

He was a legend. What else is there to say? Fantastic keyboardist, excellent singer (even if a bit odd), great songwriter, excellent session player. One in a million.
