Lisa Stansfield says that her mother playing songs by Diana Ross & The Supremes when she was younger sparked her interest in soul music, and that two of her biggest idols were Marvin Gaye and Barry White. She recorded "All Around the World" for her 1989 album Affection, and it reached #1 in the UK, #1 on the Hot Soul Singles and Hot Dance Singles charts in the US and #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 1992 she recorded it with one of her idols, Barry White, as the B side to "Time To Make You Mine." White included it in his 1992 box set, Just For You. It’s a great song, and seeing the two of them singing it together makes it that much better.

I don’t know this song or the female vocalist but anything with Mr. White is okay by me!

You hear her her solo version of this on smooth jazz stations a lot. I like her voice and she’s a good songwriter (she co-wrote this one). And naturally, add Barry White and it’s three times as good.

How many 400 lb. sex symbols could sing as well as he could? Lisa’s original was great, but adding Barry to the mix made it three times better.

I was thinking of doing him for SLS this week (but I changed my mind). I always liked both artists but never knew they did this together.

I just ran across it a few weeks ago. I’ve always liked this song myself; Lisa Stansfield is a great singer.

yup, both of them. Did you know he died of a stroke? I mean, by the sounds of things, he had all sorts of health problems at the end, but eventually suffered a stroke and died about 6 weeks later.

I had read that. He was a diabetic for years and couldn’t (or didn’t) control it, and that can lead to all kinds of other issues, including a stroke. He was a relatively young man when he died. What a shame…
