Song of the Day: Eddie Heywood with Hugo Winterhalter & His Orchestra, “Canadian Sunset”

The jazz standard "Canadian Sunset" was written by Eddie Heywood with lyrics by Norman Gimbel. Eddie’s instrumental version, with Hugo Winterhalter & His Orchestra, was released in July 1956 and reached #2 on the Hot 100 and #7 on the R&B chart. Andy Williams recorded a vocal version the same year that reached #7. It’s been recorded as an instrumental by many, including Wes Montgomery, Floyd Cramer, Gene Ammons, and George Shearing, while vocal versions have been recorded by Dean Martin, Sam Cooke, Etta Jones, and Beegie Adair, among others.

  1. This is a wonderful song and I didn’t know it was called Canadian Sunset. I wonder if the composer was in Banff or somewhere like that to compose this
