Song of the Day: The Kinks, “Waterloo Sunset”

"Waterloo Sunset" is from The Kinks’ 1967 album Something Else By The Kinks. It was the first song by The Kinks to be released in stereo. It was written by Ray Davies and is one of the band’s best-known songs, ranking #42 on Rolling Stone magazines "500 Greatest Songs of All Time." It reached #2 in the UK and ws in the Top 10 in Australia, New Zealand, and most of Europe, but went nowhere in North America.

  2. John,

It occurred to me yesterday that you have a theme for your daily song picks this week, ‘Sunset’. Are you going for a song-a-day each week with a specific theme in mind or did it just work out this way? I don’t think I noticed this before now. Good song choice.

  3. Without any question one of the greatest songs ever written and performed. Never fails to move. There’s an extensive tribute post on The Jukebox about this song.

    Regards Thom.
