Southern rockers the Marshall Tucker Band (from Spartanburg, South Carolina) released this as a single from their 1977 album Carolina Dreams. It was their highest-charting single, reaching #14 on the Hot 100, #51 on the Country chart, and #25 on the Adult Contemporary chart. It did even better in Canada, reaching #5 on the Pop chart. The song was written by lead guitarist and vocalist Toy Caldwell.

Ah this is another band that comes to mind when I hear the term Southern Rock. Caldwell was a really good writer…He was respected heavily by his peers. Everytime I read something about ABB or any of those bands…they always mention Caldwell.

I’ve noticed that. They made some great music that wasn’t in the ABB/Skynyrd mold, but those bands thought highly of Marshall Tucker and particularly Caldwell.
