Wires, Wires Everywhere… #socs

I had some pretty nice stereo equipment many years ago. That was until one of my cats developed an insatiable appetite for speaker wire. I got so tired of rewiring the speakers every time I wanted to listen to music that I finally got rid of the equipment. To this day I regret doing that. I should have just gotten rid of the damn cat. She was a real pain in the ass anyway.

My office is a rat’s nest of wires, cables, electrical cords, short extension cords for the transformers that make everything from the computer to the printer work, USB cables, etc. etc. We needed wireless technology about 30 years ago, and now even more than then. Anytime I need to plug something in, I need Mary to come in and do it for me. It’s a pain. I have these great Bluetooth headphones that I can’t use with my desktop computer because the Bluetooth on the desktop keeps cutting out on me. I’m sorely tempted to replace the desktop, except I don’t want to spend the money. Maybe I should take everything off it and restore it. Will that help? Dunno. Couldn’t hurt.

Nothing to do with wires, but I go for a colonoscopy on Wednesday. I don’t know if I should say "wish me luck" or "say a prayer," but anyway…

  1. I haven’t had a problem with cats and cords but they are an unsightly mess. I got a shelf in the studio that has nobs and I was able to wrap the cords around them to keep it a little more organized. Good luck with the procedure. You’re right, the prep is the worst part.

  2. I suppose I’ll say here’s hoping everything about your colonoscopy goes smoothly from start to finish. If you think it’ll make things more festive I’ll wave some sparklers around…

  3. I’m sending luck and prayers for Wednesday and the Tuesday prep. The prep decreases my weight by a few pounds though it doesn’t last.

  4. Hope all comes out alright on Wednesday.
My junk drawer is a tangle of useless wires. There ought to be a named mental disorder for that tendency… or, is being disconnected secretly what we want. πŸ˜‰

  5. The cat chewing your stereo wires reminded me of the rats eating the ABS and stabilitrak wires in my car. The mechanic said those wires are like crack to those rats. Re: Wednesday, the prep is worse than the procedure. Good luck!!

  6. Good one, and I might’ve thot of it has not not been an apoplectic week. Computers shoulda made us wireless and paperless, but the bluetooth crap rarely works right and is invasive. So I stick with wires which do not let me down.

  7. I’ve got a colonoscopy scheduled for the end of April. I’m not thrilled with the prospect, but last time I got one it really wasn’t all that bad since they put me to sleep. It was the prep that I didn’t much care for.

    Have fun with yours.

  8. The brand new Windows 10 Lenovo laptop I had before retiring could not keep a pleasant sounding music stream going to my wireless headphones. Wired headphones worked flawlessly, but not wireless.

    1. Bluetooth works perfectly on my laptop, but not my desktop. I think my desktop is reaching the end of its usable life…

I’d have the Bluetooth checked on that laptop. You haven’t had it that long.

  9. I keep our wires, etc. fairly organized. I have a small space for my laptops, printer, and headphones. I have one of those protector strips where you plug everything in. I have a wireless mouse which I love. Hubby has a desktop, with speakers, headphones, etc. and it’s pretty organized. Our new cat, Callie, hasn’t taken an interest in wires, yet.

    1. Mary found some bitter apple cream at Petsmart. Rubbing it on the cords seems to have kept the kitties from feasting on them. If your little miss shows any tendency to chew on yours, try the bitter apple. The other thing is putting everything behind closed doors…

    1. They plan on knocking me out to do the procedure. They might have trouble waking me up, because the night before I’ll be doing the prep and don’t figure on getting much sleep. Of course, all I need is for the hospital to call and tell me the whole thing’s off because of Covid-19…

The “cat chewing on the cords” problem is moot, becaause we onlly have the one now and she doesn’t go near any of the computer equipment. She also doesn’t jump on counters and always uses the box. Quite a change from the turn of the century, when we had many more.
