Let’s start with a song, the title track from Julian Lennon’s 1984 album, Valotte.
Julian sounds and looks like his father here. He’s the son, of course, of the late John Lennon and his first wife, Cynthia. From the sound of it, Julian had to put up with a lot of verbal abuse from his father, and yet he and his father did become close during the ’70’s, when John and Yoko separated and John was involved with May Pang. He and his half-brother Sean have a fairly good relationship.
I’m sorry Julian’s musical career didn’t go much further. Not because I think he’s as talented as his father, or because I feel sorry for him that his early life was so difficult, but because he is a talented musician in his own right.

Wow, he sure does sound a lot like his dad. I hadn’t heard his music before.

He had one pretty good hit, “Too Late For Goodbyes” that you might have heard…

I’m sure looking so much like his dad didn’t help either.

Fathers and sons , it’s never easy. Lennon though talented was not the nicest person.. sad that talent of Julian is obvious. He lives a full life, writes books, films music the boy done good 💜

I agree with you; he is talented in his own right. This song in particular I love it ❤

I really liked his music when he came out even though I thought he looked and sounded like his dad and was dissing his dad. He was young when he lost his dad and I think he needed to mature and has come at peace with all of it. It’s a shame he never could break free from his dad’s shadow. Love the old ad of the ca4 and how different the ads are of today.

Julian was about 17 when his father died, and by all accounts they had a difficult relationship, although it got better in the ’70’s. He was quite understandably angry at his father for leaving him and his mother when he was still very young.
Notice the difference in car commercials in the ’50’s and today. Then they stressed the quality of the vehicle; today, they stress the price…

He is talented. I guess it takes more than talent sometimes.

Yes. I’ve read that John wasn’t the nicest guy in the world and Julian had a difficult life. He is very talented and it’s unfortunate he hasn’t pursued his musical career.

I don’t know if he’s abandoned it entirely. His last album was released in 2011 and his most recent single is from 2016. He does a lot of charity work and I think that involves his music. He has a lot of other interests, including cooking, photography, and collecting memorabilia from his father. He has a book out that displays a lot of the latter. He’s an interesting guy.

He does look and sound so much like his father. I always liked John’s cheeky side in the early days of the Beatles. Unfortunately it hid a cruel side that both his sons later talked about. Still, he was a good singer, song writer and musician.

A lot of John’s humor was steeped in cruelty and sarcasm, which probably arose from his own difficult childhood. A lot of that pain came out in his songs.

His mother married several times after John, and that can cause a lot of disruption in a kid’s life.
