Song of the Day: “Down Home Shakedown”

I’ve used this before, and I don’t care, it’s one of my favorite videos. This was from a German music program back in the ’60’s that did a show on the blues, and they got some serious talent for the show: I think they must have gotten all the bluesmen (and one or two women) from the South and West Sides of Chicago and brought them over. “Down Home Shakedown” features five harmonica players: “Big Mama” Thornton, Big Walter “Shakey” Horton, J. B. Lenoir, Doctor Ross, and John Lee Hooker. Backing them up are Buddy Guy on guitar, Eddie Boyd on piano, Lonesome Jimmie Lee on bass, and Fred Below on drums. It’s a little loose; I think they had a party going on backstage.
