When I was a freshman in high school, I joined the school band. We were one of the funkiest high school bands around: six saxophones, three guitarists, bass, drums, a couple of trumpets, and a keyboard who was louder than all of us. He’d get started on this and we’d jam on it for half an hour… great times. “Viva Tirado” was the title track from El Chicano’s 1970 debut album. It reached #28 on the Hot 100 and #20 on the R&B chart.
