The End of May Week That Was

This edition of The Week That Was is brought to you by Planter’s Cocktail Peanuts: The special snack that makes ordinary occasions special!

Kind of a quiet week here at Chez Holton. I sent the computer off to be upgraded on Thursday and have been working from the living room while Mary knits, reads, and putters around the house. I don’t think I’ve driven her crazy. At least not yet. Had my annual checkup on Tuesday, and we went to lunch at Chili’s after, making that my weekly excursion out of the house. I have my colonoscopy a week from Tuesday, which might be the next time I get out. There really isn’t anywhere to go just yet; I hope that’s a situation that changes before too much longer. Anyway, here’s what the week was like here.

Did you enjoy the week spent with one artist (even if you didn’t necessarily enjoy the artist)?

Built a playlist around this week’s theme, “flowers and gardens.”Hope you enjoyed it.

Answered several questions about patriotism, about social justice, the difference between decisions and consequences, and what body part I wouldn’t mind losing. Hey, I don’t ask ’em, I just answer ’em.

Boz Scaggs, who got into light rock after his Steve Miller and blues singer days, was the featured artist.

Came up with my own one-liner comparing the “new normal” with “new Coke.” It wasn’t especially flattering.

Reviewed Richard Brodie’s Virus of the Mind, a book on the science of memetics, which I think we can see multiple examples of in the coming weeks and months, just as we’ve seen examples in the weeks and months past.

Visited Chicago and raddio station WCFL, the other AM rocker, and saw what was on their survey on this week in 1969.

We were given the words spay, spray, and splay with which to play. (Hey I’m a poet, and I don’t know it! My feet show it, ’cause they’re Longfellows!) The first two were easy, the third took a wee bit of work.

Freebie day tomorrow on Monday’s Music Moves Me, and there’s a good chance I’ll do what I did a couple of weeks ago and toss an album at you. I’ll feature another Yacht Rock artist on Tuesday, I have my eyes out for a pithy one-liner for Wednesday, I’m waiting on prompts from Melanie, Kat and Linda for Share Your World, Writer’s Workshop, and Stream of Consciousness Saturday, respectively, I’ll see what radio station has the most interesting Top 10 for Friday, and I need to choose songs for the song of the day. And tomorrow, another Battle of the Bands. Busy week, as they all are, here. Hope you stop by!

And that’s a wrap on this week’s edition of The Week That Was. See you in the funny papers!
