Continuing on the theme from yesterday, I decided to look for other songs by Bertie Higgins, whose song “Key Largo” rose to #1 on the US and Canadian Adult Contemporary charts and #8 on the Hot 100 in 1981. Bertie is a “one-hit wonder,” since none of his later records managed to break into the Top 40, although his followup song, “Just Another Day In Paradise” (title track from his 1981 album), did reach #10 on the US AC chart. Higgins’s third single, 1982’s “Casablanca,” failed to chart in the US although it was a hit in the Pacific Rim countries.

The song is nothing special! I guess I expected more because the movie was fabulous.

You listen to some of his other songs and you begin to realize why he just had the one hit…

That was the way I felt about it. I can see a lot of people buyng the album for “Key Largo” and suffering through the rest of it…

Casablanca is one of my favorite movies.
This song, not so. Ugh. It sounds like he’s trying to hard to recreate his big hit.

He never quite did, either…
