Some music from a local band… The B-52’s started in Athens, Georgia (home of the main campus of the University of Georgia) and play around Atlanta a lot. “Love Shack” is their signature tune and a comeback tune of sorts, coming in 1989 at the end of a lean decade (during which they lost popularity and one of their original members, guitarist Ricky Wilson). It shot to #1 in Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, #2 in the UK, #3 in the US and #5 in Canada.

I wasn’t aware of them until Love Shack came out. Hearing it always makes me smile.

That was my introduction to them, too. They’d been around almost 15 years before I heard of them.

I love this song as well as their freaky one from the 70s..I think it’s from the 70s of which the name totally escapes me. This song brings back a very happy memory of me dancing at Darien Lake watching the light show with my ex( my husband at the time)

I had never even heard of them until the late ’80’s, so I’m pretty sure I don’t know the song you’re talking about. Glad this brought happy memories!

We listened to this on the way home from Southern California one year. Our daughter was young (maybe 5 or 6) and learned the words. She loved singing it.

I hadn’t been living in Atlanta very long when it came out, and it seemed like it was on the radio all the time. I hadn’t learned that they were from here yet…
