Song of the Day: The Chambers Brothers, “Time Has Come Today”

This week’s theme is “Long Gold.” In the ’60’s and more so in the ’70’s it was common for a band to record a long version of a song for the album and a shorter version for the single, or the long version of the song would be edited down to a reasonable length for radio play. The first song we’ll look at is The Chambers Brothers’ “psychedelic soul” hit from late 1967. The album track, from their 1967 album The Time Has Come, was 11 minutes and 6 seconds long, and they issued versions that were 2:37, 3:05, and 4:45, the version that spent 5 weeks at #11 on the Hot 100 in 1968.
