Song of the Day: Tommy James, “Draggin’ The Line”

Finally decided I’m going to play “YouTube Roulette” this week, where the “next up” song from the previous day is the song for the current day. YouTube suggested “Draggin’ The Line” after yesterday’s “Get Together.” It was Tommy James’s first hit after the breakup of the Shondells. It reached the Top 40 on June 26, 1971; I was busy moving to our new house that day, so I missed it. It spent 11 weeks in the Top 40, peaking at #4.

  1. I love this song! Also a few others by him as well – didn’t he also do “Dizzy” and “Crimson and Clover”?

  2. I saw Tommy James in concert at Jones Beach many years ago. He knows how to put on a show. I haven’t read his biography, but my boyfriend says its a fascinating story.

  3. He had some very likable songs…too bad his record deal wasn’t very likable.

  4. I like this song too. I have not heard it before or at least I don’t remember it . It was two months before we got married. So maybe I was a tad distracted ☺️
