Song of the Day: The Stampeders, “Sweet City Woman”

The Stampeders are a band out of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, home of the annual Calgary Stampede, the annual rodeo that in most normal years happens this month. This will be the first year without the rodeo since it began in 1912… Anyway, The Stampeders had a #1 hit with “Sweet City Woman” in Canada, the first of a string of hits in their home country, earning them a Juno award in 1972. The song went to #8 in the US, making it their only Top 40 song in the US.

      1. I never knew who did this but it’s good to find out. I do want to check the Dave Clark Five version out. Its hard to wrap my head around a Dave Clark Five in 1971.

  1. Hi John – what a pity that the Rodeo isn’t happening this year … I’m loving the Stampeders clip …fun to hear – thanks … Hilary

  2. Hmm, I know this but it doesn’t sound quite right. Has it been covered do you know? Nice song regardless.
