Song of the Day: Andrew Gold, “Thank You For Being A Friend”

When I was in the hospital after my stroke, one of the high points of my day was watching reruns of the 1985-1992 series The Golden Girls. Hey, it’s the hospital, it was either that or watching hospital stuff. The theme song for the show was “Thank You For Being A Friend,” originally recorded by Andrew Gold in 1978, when it reached #25 on the Hot 100, #11 on the Cash Box singles chart, #7 in Canada, and #42 in the UK. Cynthia Fee sang the song for the show, but I like the original.

    1. I think everybody liked the show. It was one with universal appeal, from back in the days when the networks ran non-news original programming on Saturday night.
