Decided to shift gears and feature something by a bunch of guys from Chicago. “After The Love Is Gone” is from Earth Wind & Fire’s ninth studio album, 1979’s I Am. It was the second single from the album, released in July 1979, and reached #2 on both the Hot 100 and the Hot R&B Singles charts in the US, #4 on the UK Singles chart, and #3 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary Singles chart that year. The song waws written by David Foster, Jay Graydon, and Bill Champlin, who later was a member of the group Chicago.

Another one I forgot about. Great song. Happy Wednesday.

The song, or the band? I’ve heard a lot of bands cover the song, but hadn’t heard the original in a while.

Yes, they are. I have their “Greatest Hits, Volume 1” and it has all their big ones. I don’t think they ever came out with Volume 2…

Hi John – a classic, if ever there was one … love it. All the best – Hilary

I’m not sure what the status of the band is; they’ve lost a couple of members. They’re another band that’s been around more than 50 years, and their stuff still sounds like they recorded for the first time yesterday…

I love listening to these guys even now.

They’ve aged well. A lot of music from the ’70’s sounds dated, but not theirs. I’m certain a lot of the under-18 set would disagree…
