Some more ’70’s soul to round out the week, this time from Philadelphia. Back Stabbers was The O’Jays’ first album for Philadelphia International Records and sixth album overall, released in 1972. It was their first album to achieve Gold status, and the title track and “Love Train” were both Top 10 singles on both the Hot 100 and R&B charts. “Back Stabbers” was written by Leon Huff, Gene McFadden, and John Whitehead, and was the first single. It reached #3 on the Hot 100 (Cash Box had it as #1) and #1 on the R&B/Soul chart and earned Gold status. It also reached #14 in the UK.
