Song of the Day: Barry White, “I’m Gonna Love You Just A Little More Baby”

Everybody’s favorite 300 lb. sex symbol, Barry White, credited Elvis Presley’s “It’s Now Or Never” with getting him to give up the gang life and devote himself to music. Barry’s first single, “I’m Gonna Love You Just A Little More Baby,” was from his first LP, 1973’s I’ve Got So Much To Give, and was a huge for him, reaching #3 on the Hot 100 and #1 on the Soul/R&B chart in the US and #10 in Canada. Barry played piano on this song, accompanied by Ray Parker Jr., Wah-Wah Watson, Dean Parks, and David T. Walker on guitars, Wilton Felder and Nathan East on bass, Ed Greene on drums, and Gary Coleman on vibraphone.

  1. I just love Barry White. His voice throw me back to another place and time – and a great time it was. Was it unlikely he would be so popular? I wonder. He was such an important part of my musical history.

    1. As I said, he was an unlikely sex symbol. He came at the perfect time for his overtly sensual music. Five years earlier, he wouldn’t get any airplay, and five years later he’d be competing with all the artists who were playing disco and might not have been as successful.
