Time once again for Melanie’s Share Your World! For the last several weeks, and probably for the next several, Roger has been asking questions based on the Harry Potter books. Those will be the first four questions, while Melanie’s are the last three. And here we go…
One of my favorite gifts that Harry Potter received came from the Weasley Twins; and was “Mrs. Mooney’s Marauder’s Map”. This magical document showed every classroom, hallway and secret corner in all of Hogwarts. It also showed you the location- by name- of every person in Hogwarts. If you had such a magical map of your town, what would you use it for? If you would not use it, is there another person to whom you would gift it? I’d treat it as an objet d’art, have it framed and hang it on the wall.
When was the last time you made a snowball? Were in a snowball fight? It’s been many years. Maybe when I was 14 or so. Probably earlier.
Many cultures set great value in each child of the family having godparents. Did you have godparents? Are you a godparent yourself? Yes, I had godparents. In a Catholic family, everyone has godparents, because they’re called for in the Rite of Baptism. It wouldn’t do for the priest to ask “Are you ready to help the parents of this child in their duty as Christian parents?” at the ceremony and not get an an answer. My Aunt Jill, better known as Fabulous Auntie Jill, is my godmother and still with us, while Dad’s brother Jack, who died in 1976 around the time of the Bicentennial, is my godfather. I in turn am my cousin Patsy’s godfather. I was ten.
You have found a secret tunnel under your house. Where does it go? To another dimension where my BMI is under 30 and I haven’t had a stroke.
Is intelligence or wisdom more useful? It depends on the situation. In general, yes. And both are secondary to street smarts. And none of the above requires a college degree.
How important is play in living a healthy and fulfilling life? It’s pretty much essential, but it’s important to have fun on your own terms. For example, I can think of nothing worse than playing golf. My brothers, on the other hand, love it. Actually I don’t mind the idea of driving the golf cart and drinking beer.
Is happiness just chemicals flowing through your brain or something more? Physiologically, it’s just the chemicals (specifically endorphins) flowing through your brain. Beyond that, happiness is a warm puppy. Or kitten, or bunny, or Gila monster or…
See you in the funny papers!
