Song of the Day: The Dramatics, “Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get”

The Dramatics were from Detroit, but after signing with a couple of local record labels that were later acquired by Motown, which didn’t seem interested in them, they signed with Stax Records in Memphis in 1968. They left after lackluster performance of their first single; they were re-signed by Stax subsidiary label Volt. "Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get" is the title track from their first album. It reached the Top 10 on the Hot 100 (#9) and the R&B chart (#3) in 1971.
