Song of the Day: Sade, “The Sweetest Taboo”

The band Sade (shah-day) was formed in London in 1982. Named for its singer, Sade Adu, they’ve been quite popular among fans of smooth jazz, soul, and sophisti-pop. Released in 1985 as the lead single from their second album, 1985’s Promise, "The Sweetest Taboo" reached #5 on the Hot 100, #3 on the R&B chart, and #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart. This is from a 2011 live performance.

  1. Not in my wheelhouse but she has a hell of a smooth voice…I’ve heard some of her other music.

  2. That’s the year we saw her. Great concert, except she started so late we had to leave before the encore so we didn’t miss our BART train going home. That was a bummer, especially because she rarely tours.
