Howard Jones had a couple of singles reach the Top 40 in the US, but it wasn’t until "Things Can Only Get Better" in 1985 that he made his leap into the Top 10. It was the first single from his 1985 album Dream Into Action. Wikipedia tells us, "John Leland from Spin magazine wrote that ‘It mines the best of the Anglo soul movement: a clean slap-bass line, precise horns and synths, and some well-paced and inviting singing.’" The song reached #5 on the Hot 100, #9 in Canada, and #6 in the UK.
Great song. I know I am the weirdo, but I prefer the music alone to the videos most of the time.

He did have some great songs and I like his voice. That’s all you really need from a singer-songwriter, isn’t it?
