Learned something interesting this evening: Chaka Khan went to the same grammar school as my mother…
"I Feel For You" was written by Prince, who included it on his eponymous 1979 album after Patrice Rushen turned it down. The Pointer Sisters recorded in 1982 for their album So Excited! Chaka Khan recorded it in 1984 with help from Melle Mel from Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five on vocals and Stevie Wonder on harmonica. It reached #3 (behind Wham’s "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" and Prince’s "Purple Rain") on the Hot 100, #1 on the Hot Black Singles and Dance Club Singles charts, #2 in Canada and #1 in the UK. It earned Gold records in the US and UK.
I remember this one, great song.
