"Baby It’s You" was written by Burt Bacharach, with lyrics by Luther Dixon (as Barney Williams) and Mack David (the older brother of Hal David, with whom Bacharach wrote many of his songs). The Shirelles recorded it in 1961 with Dixon producing, and it reached #3 on the R&B chart and #8 on the Hot 100. The Beatles, who were playing in Hamburg between 1961 and 1963, included this in their live sets, and included it on their debut album, 1963’s Please Please Me (in the US, 1964’s Introducing The Beatles on Vee Jay and, later, 1965’s The Early Beatles on Capitol).

I didn’t realize this was a Bacharach tune. Very nice!

What a great song. I would have loved to turn on the radio and have this as a new song…some of those girl groups produced some of the era’s best song.

I’ll be doing more girl groups as the month progresses. The Beatles did this and “Chains,” both Shirelles songs, on their first album.

Yes, Eugenia. The music is very nostalgic and harks back to the old times and golden days. . . .
Thank you, John. Happy Sunday to both of you!
