Trouble Man was a 1972 blaxploitation crime film, directed by Ivan Dixon, that starred Robert Hooks, Paul Winfield, and Paula Hooks. The film is still noted for its soundtrack, which was written, produced, and performed by Marvin Gaye. Gaye wrote five different versions of the title track, including an alternate vocal track that was used in the film. The single was released in November 1972 and reached #7 on the Hot 100 the following January. It peaked at #4 on the R&B chart.
Never heard this one but it’s Marvin…it’s almost automatically a like before I hear it… and this one was no exception.

Marvin became more popular when his songs became more socially conscious. A lot of people couldn’t do that…

Such a great tune to just chill to. It’s still so sad how he died. I remember when it happened and was in shock that his dad was the culprit.

I really enjoy listening to this – R&B back then is nothing like R&B now. I’m not sure what happened to the genre but it really went off the rails!

Record companies, such as they are these days, stopped looking for “good” in favor of “cheap.” It also doesn’t help that so many of the elder statesmen, like Isaac Hayes, Curtis Mayfield, and Marvin Gaye, are no longer with us.
