Diana Ross officially left The Supremes in January 1970, introducing her replacement, Jean Terrell, at the Frontier Hotel in Las Vegas. Berry Gordy wanted to immediate replace her with Syreeta Wright, but Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong objected, leading Gordy to "wash his hands" of the group. "Stoned Love" was from the Terrell-led Supremes’ second album, 1970’s New Ways but Love Stays. Written by Kenny Thomas and Frank Wilson, it was the group’s last Top Ten hit on the Hot 100, reaching #7, while reaching #1 on the R&B chart, #9 in Canada, and #3 in the UK.
Hmmm….I wonder if this gal with a great voice wouldn’t give Gordy what Ross gave so he let them go. Ross was and is a Diva.

He never cut them loose, just didn’t promote them like he used to. They finally broke up. I know Mary Wilson kept singing, not sure about the others.

I really like this song. I can’t blame them in a way…Mary can sing great…probably better range than Ross but Ross is who the public was accustomed to .

Yea…I hate when someone gets bumped when the others have talent…but it worked out for them as a whole…still doesn’t mean I have to like it.

Diana Ross has a hell of a voice, but all of them did, and I would have liked to hear Mary Wilson or Cindy Birdsong do a few. But that wasn’t the dynamic…
