It’s that time again! Melanie asks us questions every week at this time, we answer them and out our answers in a blog post that we then pingback to hers. Click the link at the beginning of the paragraph andgo where she has all the rules and stuff. And awaaaaaay we go…
What would you enjoy if you could do so without someone getting annoyed with you for enjoying it? It MUST be something you aren’t supposed to enjoy because it is “bad for you”. Smoking.
(The penguin’s name is Willie.)
Is it okay for men to wear the color pink? Back in the days when I used to dress in a suit and tie for work, one of my favorite looks was a dark blue suit with a white shirt and a pink foulard tie. Or a dark blue or gray suit with a pink shirt and compatible dark tie. I have several pink golf shirts in my wardrobe, because Mary thinks I look good in them. Dodie Stevens has her favorite…
Dodie was 13 (maybe 12) when she recorded that song. Ten years later, using the name Geraldine Stevens, she recorded "Billy, I’ve Got To Go To Town," an answer song to Kenny Rogers’s "Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love To Town."
Anyway, let’s move on…
Can you curl your tongue?

What, in your opinion, is the best room to put a fireplace? Ours is in the living room. In 33 years in this house, we’ve used fewer than ten times. It’s a real pain in the ass to clean, and we have to have the chimney sweep out every year if we use it.

I decided that I say it enough that I should create a graphic.
And now, a public service announcement: look up from your phone once in a while.

That phone thing we get you every time. How sad we’ve become addicted to technology. By we I mean me. I need an intervention.

I worked with technology for years. It is addicting…

Smoking used to be sophisticated and cool. I am trying to think of things that would work and I can’t think of anything. I can curl my tongue too. You know that you either have the gene to do this or you don’t. I think pink is fine on men but some men can pull it off and others can’t. My brother looks cool and so does my fr8end’s husband. My brother loves the blues and my fr8end’s husband is in a band. My hubby…forget it. He is a guy that works outside, fixes cars etc… and he would look so weird in pink nor would he be caught dead in that colour. A fireplace looks great in a library, den or the living room. I have one in our library but it doesn’t work. My mom designed the addition onto the home I grew up in. We had a fireplace in the main living room and a wood stove in the basement area where her office was. They were created by Italian stone masons and I loved that fireplace. It could heat that huge room(24×24) plus our adjacent kitchen area. It was a wood fireplace and I loved the smell, the sound of the crackling and the look. We had wood galore since we owned a sawmill.

The Fathers Against Drunk Driving wear pink where I live. Beyond that, I think it’s a case by case basis. I wouldn’t dare wear pink with my complexion, but judging from the picture, it does look good on you.

Well, thank you! Mary likes it, too.
In high school, much was made of Jay Gatsby (from The Great Gatsby) wearing a pink suit. The teacher asked me what the significance was, and I answered that he was wearing a pink suit because his purple one was at the cleaners.

In high school in the 50’s we wore pink shirts and charcoal gray pants.
Funny, it must have been about 33 years ago we had, on my wife’s order, a beautiful brick fireplace built in the living room also. However we probably used it less than ten times.

I’m sure the next owners of the house (not that we’re planning on moving) will get a lot more use out of the fireplace than we have. We have ceramic logs and a gas jet built in, but Mary doesn’t like fire and I couldn’t care less about it, so it mostly just sits there…

Sounds familiar, except my wife vetoed the idea of a gas log s soon as I brought it up.

Always the humorist. That little video clip made me laugh aloud! It’s the least some twerp deserves if they’re walking around, so self-absorbed. I got behind that woman’s relative at the drive-up this morning. Terrifying! I never have said Thank you so much for Sharing Your World John! Yes your tongue curl ‘qualifies’… it’s the same as mine. And I bet you look very handsome in pink. Have a great week – in or out of the funny papers and the music bin! ☺

The shirt I was wearing in the picture is “geranium pink,” as it happens…

Yep, I enjoyed smoking too but gave it up many years ago. We have a fireplace and use it frequently in cold weather and in fact, we used it last night. It’s messy and hubby does a good job cleaning it. We live in an apartment complex and they have a contract with chimney sweeps, which they also clean out the dryer vents on an annual basis. I’m sure this is for fire prevention and appreciate that they do this. The public service announcement is hilarious.

When I was in college, the pipe for the dryer vent got all clogged up, and one morning lightning hit the vent cover and all the lint caught fire. (That’s what they said happened, anyway.) We didn’t have any flame that we saw, but there was a lot of smoldering and smoke. I guess it was fortunate that I had to get up early to take an exam, so we were all up. They had to chop through the wall to get to it.

She sounded a whole lot better at 23 than she did at 13, though I kind of liked the younger her, too.
