KENO in Las Vegas was that city’s first successful radio station. From the 1950’s to the 1980’s they were a Top 40 station, and are now a Spanish-language sports station. Here’s their Top Ten from December 5, 1978. Once again, very little disco…
# | Song/Artist | Comments |
---|---|---|
10 | Champagne Jam Atlanta Rhythm Section |

9 | Le Freak Chic |
Chic’s third single, it reached #1 on the Hot 100 and R&B chart and was a Top Ten single in most of the rest of the world. |
8 | Time Passages Al Stewart |

From 1978’s Brother To Brother, his sixth and most successful album as well as his last for A&M records. Reached #4 on the Hot 100, #2 on the Cash Box chart, and #1 in Canada. Still popular on Smooth Jazz stations. |
5 | Lights Journey |

2 | (Our Love) Don’t Throw It All Away Andy Gibb |
Andy’s big brother Barry wrote this with Blue Weaver. It was originally part of the soundtrack for Saturday Night Fever, but wasn’t released until 1979 on their album Bee Gees Greatest. It was Andy’s third single from his Shadow Dancing album, and reached #9 on the Hot 100, #7 on the Cash Box chart, and #8 in Canada. |
1 | Hold The Line Toto |
Toto’s first single from their eponymous début album, it reached #5 in the US and Canada, and #14 in the UK. |
And that’s Top Ten Tuesday for December 1, 21020.
This is another great list. I am always amazed at how many different songs you remember and pick. I know all these songs but would never even begin to know how to remember to pick them.

Remember, I don’t actually pick the songs: they come from a radio station survey, which I find on the Airheads Radio Survey Archive (http://las-solanas.com/arsa/), Oldiesloon (http://oldiesloon.com/), through Internet searches or Pinterest. The national chart data (Hot 100, Cash Box, RPM etc.) comes from Wikipedia. I just build the playlist that has the songs in it.

Wow – I haven’t heard “Time Passages” in ages.
I think “very little disco” could have inspired a set of call letters, John KVLD or WVLD would have both been popular with me.

I checked: KVLD is a “K-Love” station (religious broadcaster) out of Norfolk, Nebraska (Johnny Carson’s hometown), and WVLD is “Rock 106.9” out of Valdosta, Georgia. Back when disco was a thing, though, either one would work…

Funny thing is that I think the call letters preceded the Las Vegas Strip and all the casinos. Anyway, glad you liked the survey I picked…
