Writer’s Workshop: Christmas Time Is Here

December, and 22 days until Christmas. Seems the older I get, the more I appreciate December. There’s something about standing in December and looking back at all the days before, either with fondness or the feeling of "Thank God, it’s over."

This has been a year like that. Started out great, then all of a sudden everything was thrown into reverse, giving more than a few people whiplash, I think. I don’t think any of us wants to go through another year like this again. The best thing that we can say about 2020 is that it’ll be over in 29 days.

I hope we can get through the rest of the year with nothing else going wrong, and that 2021 will be free of coronaviruses and racial and political upheaval. I pray that life returns to the normal we all knew when 2019 ended.

  1. I am so with you, John!

Holiday music and movies help so much to bypass the effects this virus has brought to everyone. Sweet reminders of what the season should be like, regardless of the commotion of these past months.

Right now, I’m trying to convince The Husband that the 10′ Concolor Fir in the bed of his truck…is only 7′. Fortunately, we have cathedral ceilings so me thinks I’ve won the battle.

    Stay safe!

    1. Growing up, we always had a 10 foot tree and plenty of ornaments and lights to hang on it. We moved to the suburbs and could only have an 8 foot tree, and my mother had a heck of a time deciding which ones would have to sit the season out.

  2. I don’t know if it’s my age or the whole mess of what 2020 has brought us, but Christmas music (like this sweet song) and Christmas movies seem to mean much more to me this year. I don’t want it to end. Soaking it up.

    1. I know. I’ve had hard years before, but this was a real doozy. I’ll probably look for some Christmas novelty songs for some laughs. Christmas, music, and laughter all seem to go together…

  3. I love December, too. I don’t think 2019 was all that great, though. Not with someone in the White House who always seems on the verge of starting a war.

    Love,
    Janie

  5. I second this motion! It really is just crazy how the year was flipped completely upside down for all of us. What just happened? I’m ready to leave 2020 behind and hope to never revisit it.

  6. Amen, John! I saw this on another blogger’s site – I’m going to stay up on New Year’s Eve this year. Not to see the New Year in, but to make sure this one leaves.

  7. Yes this year could have been so much better in seeing family and friends. Christmas will be a bit odd but it could be so much worse. We don’t live I. A war torn country. Many people have lost their homes to fires, flood, tornadoes and hurricanes. The orange man will be out and I bet he will leave before the 20th but he will still be talking. The good things that happened this year, I did not get any head cold or flu, I appreciate my friends and family even more. I avoided the malls even more than normal and just loved my home more. I have my home, my pets and my hubby. I am thankful for so much.
